 Arm jump/climb up
« Thread Started on Dec 31, 2007, 1:28pm »

This thread is for the discussion of the movement armjump / climb up

A very important movement in parkour. mostly used when a gap is too far to jump/clear and land on your feet.

You can take off running or from standing. You take off aiming your hands for the edge of your obstacle, sometimes the ledge could be a bar, wall etc.

The arms and legs almost make contact at the same time, your hands being on the edge of the top of the ledge and feet extended out to absorb the impact. The legs will be extended upwards at about thigh/waist weight, and then absorbing the impact as your body momentum pushes the rest of your body into the wall.

Some times your feet can slide down the wall. This isn't 'wrong' or 'bad' this can actually help to absorb the impact of the arm jump.

Call it necroposting if you want but i'm having trouble with climbups/mucleups,
Occasionally i can get one arm up and lock it but i can't throw the other over.
I've been looking into it and apparently you have to tense up your whole body
for the best results?

Would you say this is true?

i'd say
work on your pull ups and push ups alot
these comprise the two movements of it
you pull so that your body is moved up and chest is over the wall (this is where your hands change position) and then push on the wall so you're at waist
then keep developing
untill you can pull
and land at waist without the middle bit

i'v found the quickest most efficent way to do it if your running up the wall or whatever, is to actually kick off, almost like a tic tak, but keeping your hands on the wall so you end up arms straight locked at the top.
