I am doing research into Parkour and Free-running for my dissertation at university and i wondered How did you originally come in contact with Parkour or Freerunning, and what made you begin practicing? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

because david belle really shows what parkour is about obviously cos he helped make it lol but his movement is so smooth and effortless, what parkour should be but also his focus as well it made me try it

pkjsy: you mentioned the philosophy of parkour that is something i have found really interesting, how has that effected you or what attracted you to it.
mayhem: I think it is interesting that you can use parkour to escape the world by going where others can't, do you think that then that it will never be a sport for the masses or do you not want it to?
Has it changed the way that you see the world then?

I got into parkour from watching videos on you tube and google video. I was just amazed of the ability and of the moves that they did. From there i found pakour.net and ukpka and just continued practising from. Now i mainly practise tricking.

you WANT it to be a mass sport..
okay, basically right now, parkour is hidden. it is something personal to you, though there are thousands of other practitioners, it just feels personal.
you walk down the street, see people trying to climb over stuff, or just simply walkig, and you realise that you are better than these people, and it feels absolutely amazing.
if it becomes large and known, there will be nothing personal to you, you'll blend in and not stick out from the crowd. just be another normal face

yeah and plus parkour shouldnt b a sport how can you judge stamina vs efficiency vs speed vs flow. it just doesnt work, one of the targets of parkour is whoever you teach, u aim to help them surpass your level. Not to beat them for awards.
and yer reeves i think the philosphy is amazing about being free yet mental and physical strength. It is a way to live not a novelty. I liked it because its more than it seems on the surface

i just would not want to be just another face
i love how people react when we train, its amazing
it wouldn't be... the same if mass participation came into it

i like the fact that its a little hidden, but you have to remember that belle and co, could have kept parkour to themselves and if they did you would never have known about parkour, it wouldnt have changed peoples lives like it has. keep it personal, but our goal should be to help as many people as possible find this amazing discipline we were GIVEN.
