Hi, I wondered if anyone could tell me the best way to get a club going for my son. He is 11 and is doing his black belt in Karate this year. Him and his friends have started doing abit of parkour, but there is nowhere to train it properly. We are in Harrogate north yorkshire and wondered if there was an association that could get involved like there is in the inner cities. Any help would be great. ;D

You don't need a 'club' or 'association' to practise parkour correctly and safely. This is one huge issue that people are lead to think they are 'club' where you can learn. Parkour is about personal preference and learning through movement. The best advise anyone can give is watch video that demonstrate parkour well here are some links i would advise: youtube.com/watch?v=I8BxxC1-oO8&feature=relatedBlane - power is nothing without control. youtube.com/watch?v=BWaULFLHUO0Teige - Meow www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YZhAGduHVoPhil - Barefootdem Foolish Blaps! As you can see from Teige's and Phil's videos they are training barefoot there are many reasons for this. One main reason is training barefoot will allow you to practise landing correctly. Landing correctly is about absorbing all the impact and landing on your pads of your feet and your toes. I wouldn't advise practising some of the movements barefoot that feature in the videos but practise smaller movements just moving around obstacles etc. The best thing to do is explore the inner city look for places to move around and train and do what you enjoy. Simple things can be used as training aids such as a single rail, curb or even a staircase. If you have any more questions please just ask away!
