My name is Brynly, I'm 15, from Exeter. I've posted in the Exeter portal further down but I'm an impatient little person. (hehe, censor) I read the thread below (above?) this about being too old, and that gave me some solace; however, as well as not being gymnastic in the slightest (no cartwheels...yet) I can't do a forward role... I end up kneeing myself in the face. Will this impare me at all? I'm quite athletic, and quite flexible (4 hours of TKD a week. Doesn't sound like much but it does it.), and am determined to flesh out these sticks I call arms. Anyway, the reason I'm useless at gymnastics, and never got into parkour when I was younger, is (I think) a BIG fear of pain. How did you guys overcome this?

overcome fear of pain? you can't, simply. just train carefully, and makesure not to do anything outside of your comfort zone
don't worry, i can't carwheel either :] just work on strengthening your upper and lower body for parkour (pull ups, push ups, crunches, squats, calf raises etc)

Overcoming fear of pain is slightly dangerous.

you can overcome the fear of pain, but it is not advisable, there is a reason for humans being afraid of pain, to survive. lose fear of pain you'll most probably lose your life doin summat stupid. also, in my point of view, the fear of pain is what drives me to try harder things, when you're scared of something, and then do it, the buzz you get really drives you and spurs you on, so before you try losing your fear, try embracing it a bit.

How the hell can you knee yourself in the face doing a foreward roll??? Pain is good, it teaches you lessons and cartwheels aren't important in PK so your safe there! Also embrace the fact you have stick arms(I know I have too) too but Ants advice about upper body exercises will help flesh out the arms a wee bit. Hope that helps!
