Hi folks,
I'm very, very new to parkour - I've been interested in it in a kind of abstract way for a while, but in the past week or so I've decided to actually do something about it and actually try it for myself...my problem is that, while I'm not horribly unfit, I really do need to build my upper body strength particularly before I attempt some of the stuff I've seen. I've got some advice on different training techniques for building muscles, stamina etc, but I'd really like any advice anyone can offer on where to start with the actual parkour itself...so far I've been running, trying a few very basic manouevers, and enjoying it, but I feel kind of lost...is there anything I should / shouldn't be doing to help myself improve? Or is the best idea just to keep on going, pushing myself as much as I feel is safe, and see how I get on?
I'm based in Torquay, and I'd love to meet any other traceurs in the area, as I think it'd be good to learn from someone who actually knows what they're doing, so if anyone's in Devon and wouldn't mind offering a complete newbie some help and advice, please drop me a line..actually, anyone who'd like to chat, please drop me a line - one of the things I've noticed already is that people who practice parkour on the whole seem to be pretty interesting and pleasant people, so I'd love to get to know you all better .
One of the things I really like about pk is the non-competitive nature of the thing - competitiveness has put me off a lot of sports and activities in the past, so this really does appeal to me, as does the whole philosophy behind it (s I understand it anyway).
I think I've said more than enough to introduce myself, so I'll leave it here for now...I look forward to getting to know some of you better and hopefully in time contibuting something useful to this forum myself..
Take care, have fun and stay happy people...
