i have recently been practising flips indoors, just for the feeling and excitement of it, but im more of a pure parkour type without any flipping and tricking business, but which flips is easier? backwards or front ive only been practising front.

same ere been practising on grass mainly front flips and keep landing on my rear any tips would be appreciated

i can tip you on frotn flips but i just wanted to know which is easier back or front use your arms - the momentum thy give you is unbelive able run the or just stand ready for the flip wit your arms bove you, as u jump throw your arms down and back while jumping and leaning forward, as you start to see the floor agin bring ur legs outwards keep practsing this and should work

Ok here for the real advise. As this is the first time you are doing them always do them with a casual run up. You don't need to sprint like crazy a gentle jog should be fine. Take a hop not to big, no bigger than a metre. Make sure you are leaning back. This will create the 'block' (The spring from the ground upwards). Now aim up look at a angle upwards not forwards a little higher. The throw your arms down or behind either technique will create momentum. Bring your knees in hard and tuck your shins. Not knees! Shins will create a tighter Tuck. Good luck! Also in my opinion back tucks are so much easier but they have the scare factor of going backwards. Practise safely. Moved to off topic because flips are not parkour therefore not parkour discussion.

Back somersaults are physically easier than front somersaults. I would go so far as to say that a back somersault is easier than a clean reverse vault or muscle up.
However, our instincts and our experience tell us that falling backwards is wrong, so most people never learn.

Im a freerunner and I practice street stunts, but I was / am a trained tumbler first so I hope its ok to say what i think? I agree that you shouldnt give advise unless you are in a position to do so. I obviously learned most of the basic flips i have now built up from in gym, with coaches, mats, support etc etc, and this, in my opinion, has got to be the best way. However... Backs are easier to learn from a physical point of view but from a 'nerve' point of view fronts are easier! From a safety point of view fronts are safer, because if you bail half way through a back your head / neck is exposed - and it hurts, BIG time lol Rotation is quicker, so easier to get round, with bent legs but dont try to tuck tight until you are confident. Straight backs are easier than straight fronts but to do any flip with a straiht body slows down the rotation (how quickly you get round) so you must be practiced before you try these. Took me a while to grasp the names for stuff in pk /freerunning as many of the moves have been done in gym for years and some have different names! ie, backflip in gym is what some call a back handspring - in gym, a somersault is a flip! A Kong, is a 'squat through' lol Anyway, good luck and besides the good advise you have already had above about the method, dont try it until you are sure you are ready.

okay man - thats wicked advise? at the moment - i feel i am ready to do a wall flip - like wal run into a flip - i'd just like advise before ido go ahead and do it ..............

lol - ok, i would only add to what has already been said, (if you cant practice in a gym etc), that loads of people dont bend their knees enough, if you are doin it from standing and going back? Bend your knees, get a really good push off and use your arms to lift, with a good swing. Dont just look up, look back as looking up only wont get you any rotation. Remember to lift you knees as another thing people do is drag their legs and this slows the rotation. Gd luck
